Local Access Forum

1. East Sussex Local Access Forum

The East Sussex Local Access Forum advises on a range of issues concerning people using the countryside for recreation. This is a requirement of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000.

The members of the forum represent users, land managers and those with other interests, eg conservation, tourism and disabilities. Advice is provided to the Council and other organisations to improve access to the countryside for recreation whilst protecting wildlife and the landscape.

2. Members

The East Sussex Local Access Forum members are:

  • Michael Clarke – (Chair) cycling interests
  • Patrick Wallace – (Vice-chair) motorcycling interests
  • James Osman – land-management interests/farming
  • Zena Gibbs – disabled access interests
  • Annette Vallance – equestrian interests
  • Brendan Clegg – walking and countryside access interests
  • Robert Cheesman – walking interests and South Downs Society
  • Jay McNally – cycling interests
  • Chris Tipping – land-management interests
  • Jeremy Richardson – land and equestrian interests
  • Bev Marks – walking and countryside access interests

3. Meetings

Meetings are open to the public and minutes are available to download.

The meetings start at 1.30pm and are held at Seven Sisters Country Park. The following meetings are currently scheduled for 2019.

5. Rights of Way Improvement Plan

The Rights of Way Improvement Plan 2007 – 2017 sets out the County Council’s plans to improve our public rights of way network and access to the countryside. It includes measures to ensure safe and easy access for all and to encourage everyone to enjoy the beautiful countryside of East Sussex.
