Children’s homes in East Sussex

There are currently five residential children’s homes and one secure children’s home in East Sussex. We have three residential homes for looked after children. There are a further two children’s homes which offer respite and long term care for children with disabilities.

Residential children’s homes

We have three residential children’s homes along the Sussex coast. They provide a warm and homely environment with all the conditions for children to thrive. Each home is a standard domestic dwelling, set within pleasant residential areas. They are located in:

  • Eastbourne
  • Seaford
  • St Leonards-on-Sea

Each home can accommodate up to four children, aged 8 to 18, of either gender.

Our other two homes, Acorns in Bexhill and The Bungalow in Eastbourne, are small respite and residential homes that support children and young people with learning disabilities, aged 7 to 19 years old. Read about how children’s disability social care helps families.

Lansdowne secure children’s home

Lansdowne secure children's home - small square

We run a secure children’s home in Hailsham which currently accommodates up to seven children, aged 10 to 17. Expansion plans for a further five children are well underway and will be ready later in 2020.

The home includes a school and we work closely with health services.

Courts can decide to place a child in a secure facility for a limited time for a variety of reasons. While we consider referrals from local authorities across the country, we will only provide a home to children whose court order has been granted on welfare grounds, not for criminal justice reasons.
