Do you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, partnership working and negotiation experience and want to develop your career in the local authority?
The services delivered by the Communities, Economy and Transport department (CET) have an enormous impact on the lives of local people and communities. From operating waste facilities and registration offices, to maintaining roads and major infrastructure planning, the moment an East Sussex resident steps outside their front door, they are interacting with our work. Therefore, roles in our department offer enormous scope to make a positive impact on the quality of life for people and the environment of East Sussex.
Within the Highways Department, it is our role to keep people moving safely and our work touches the lives of virtually all residents and visitors within the county.
To deliver this, we are running a collaborative Highways and Infrastructure contract in conjunction with our contractor Balfour Beatty.
As a local authority we are always pushing the boundaries in terms of innovation, ensuring we continue to look at new ways of working and introduce fresh ideas.
You will be working within our Communities, Economy & Transport department providing stakeholder management expertise to the Contracts Management Group.
As Customer and Stakeholder Engagement Manager, you will;
- Build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders of the highway service
- Be the point of contact with the contractor and stakeholders, including council Members, for day-to-day management of communication and engagement
- Maintain a good knowledge of customer expectation to support our highway maintenance activities
- Develop and deliver customer and stakeholder engagement strategies
- Have oversight of the contractor’s performance in relation to customer and stakeholder activities
- Maintain an excellent understanding of council and highway issues to ensure customer standards are met whilst managing the impact of service delivery on customer satisfaction
You will be working across teams, other authorities, and agencies, with residents and communities of East Sussex at the heart of everything you do.
We are looking for candidates with:
- Interpersonal and partnership working skills
- Proven experience of stakeholder liaison with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Experience of working within in a large public or private sector organisation
- The ability to communicate effectively with a range of customers and stakeholders using tact and diplomacy
- The ability to motivate themselves and others in building and maintaining a positive profile of highways
If you meet these requirements and are looking to develop your career and knowledge within East Sussex Highways, we would be very interested in hearing from you.
Our offices are based at Ringmer Depot and County Hall, Lewes but our hybrid working arrangements allow for a mix of working from home and office based throughout the week.
Please click the 'apply now' button to complete the application form within the recruitment system, explaining how you meet all the essential (and desirable) criteria within the job description and person specification.
Interviews will take place in person unless you request an interview via Microsoft Teams. Interviews will take place in February. If you are offered an interview, but are unavailable on the offered date let us know and we may be able to schedule an alternative date to interview you.
This is a unique opportunity to work on services and projects that have a real impact on residents, visitors and anyone using the highway network in East Sussex. Liaising with our contractor, council Members and the public on a regular basis, you will have the chance to bring innovative solutions and ideas to the table to ensure the best possible service is provided to our customers.
