Secondment opportunity to work with East Sussex Academy Outreach Team

London South East Academies Trust (LSEAT) is developing a new Outreach offer to East Sussex Primary and Secondary schools, and as part of this are delighted to be able to offer several opportunities for Senior and Middle Leaders, SENCO’s and pastoral staff to work with us on a part-time secondment basis. These posts will be part time and for two terms initially, with the possibility to extend. We are entirely flexible around how many and which days would be involved.

Secondment means staff remain employed by their school, subject to their existing terms and conditions of employment. East Sussex Academy will reimburse schools for full salary costs on the days their staff work with us, and expenses will be available to cover costs such as mileage.

We would like to invite applications from across the county.  Applicants will obviously need to have discussed their application with their Head Teacher and to have their full agreement. There will be a formal application and interview process.

We are looking for colleagues who have recent and relevant experience of supporting children and young people who present with difficult and dangerous behaviour in mainstream settings, and who are keen to develop their knowledge of how to support these students in mainstream schools.

Successful candidates will have:

  • a thorough working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, an excellent understanding of the multi-agency process, and other relevant statutory guidance
  • Senior or middle leadership experience with responsibility for SEND, Behaviour or Pastoral Support
  • excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • a good sense of humour and an excellent ability to build strong working relationships with a range of people
  • a proven track record of working with and supporting vulnerable pupils and students with a range of SEN needs, particularly those with difficult and dangerous behaviour
  • extensive safeguarding knowledge and experience, ideally gained through working as a DSL
  • some awareness of latest national developments and major policy directions in the area of AP, SEND and exclusions
  • access to their own transport, as the role will involve travelling to different schools across East Sussex

Most importantly successful applicants will need to demonstrate that they are passionate about supporting vulnerable pupils, and able to demonstrate that they understand the many underlying factors which place children at risk of exclusion. In return we can offer extensive professional development with our experienced multi-disciplinary team, with the opportunity to build and develop secondees SEMH knowledge-base by working with colleagues across a range of services and around the County. This is an opportunity to work together to build a Tier 1 early intervention offer which meets the needs of schools and ultimately allows more young people to remain in mainstream education.

East Sussex Academy is part of London South East Academies Trust (LSEAT).

London South East Academies Trust are committed to safeguarding children and the successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.

Closing date:      Friday 13th December 2024
