Due to the retirement of our current caretaker, the Headteacher and governors are seeking to recruit an experienced, capable and organised caretaker to join our school. St Mary Star of the Sea is a one form entry Catholic primary school and the children are at the very centre of everything that we do.
The role will include being the main key holder and opening up the school every morning, ensuring that the grounds are free from litter, clean and tidy. Complete all relevant statutory checks and service contracts including alarm systems, heating, PAT testing, etc, liaising with contractors on site, within agreed timescales. Carry out first line repairs and maintenance to premises. Ensure adequate supplies of cleaning materials and other supplies including hand sanitiser, soaps, hand towels, toilet tissue, are available on a daily basis.
Health & Safety responsibilities include legionella testing/fire alarm testing/water temperature checks as well as a weekly recorded site inspection, identifying any hazards or maintenance requirements and making them safe.
We are looking for someone who
- Is hard working, flexible and proactive in keeping our site safe and attractive
- Understands Health & Safety and COSHH Regulations and how it applies to schools and maintenance of the school site (training will be provided if required)
- Is able to use their own initiative and manage their own varied workload
- Has good DIY skills
- Has basic ICT skills
Is able to monitor and support the two members of in house cleaning staff.

Please note that there is a pay award pending.
Working times are negotiable, but the post holder will need to be able to work daily from 7.00am to open up the site Monday to Friday.
