ALTERNATIVE CURRICULUM PRACTITIONER

Single Status Grade 5/6 Points 12-16 (depending on experience)

Salary £23,893 - £25,545 pro-rata - Actual Pay £20,027 - £21,411

35 hours per week (Mon-Fri 8.30am to 4.00pm), 40 weeks per year 

(39 weeks term time incl Inset days plus 1 week during school holidays)

An exciting opportunity has arisen at the school’s alternative provision centre, called The Route, where we are looking to appoint an Alternative Curriculum Practitioner. The Alternative Curriculum Practitioner will play a key pastoral and emotional supportive role in the school to support pupil learning and wellbeing. The post holder will also share good practice, support one to one sessions and participate/lead group work.

You will work under the professional guidance of our inspiring and supportive Alternative Curriculum Co-Ordinator to implement work programmes for individuals/groups which could include those requiring specific behaviour for learning assistance.  The role will be based in our exciting and inclusive inclusion facility The Route, which offers exceptional support of anxious/vulnerable pupils, both within the unit and within their transition into mainstream education. The ability to engage and support with a holistic and dynamic approach is central to the philosophy of The Route.

The ideal candidate will: 

  • Be committed to working with young people
  • Has excellent organisation and communication skills 
  • Has good literacy and numeracy skill
  • Has previous or equivalent experience
  • Has good interpersonal skills
  • Has the ability to relate to pupils and a clear understanding of how to motivate pupils

The job role consists of:

  • working with the inclusion team to establish an appropriate learning environment 
  • working with Alternative Curriculum Coordinator and Deputy Headteacher (Climate for Learning) to coordinate an alternative curriculum for targeted pupils 
  • working with teachers to support session planning, evaluating and adjusting lessons/work plans as appropriate
  • monitoring and evaluating pupils responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording of achievement against The Route indicators
  • coordinating specialist workshops for target pupils bringing in outside professionals where appropriate
  • developing and implementing additional learning opportunities through external providers and the local community 
  • contributing to the development School Based Plans for individual pupils 
  • promoting independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement and self-reliance
  • working in partnership with the teaching staff to implement agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupils’ responses/needs
