An exciting opportunity has arisen to play a leading role in facilitating access to a national protected landscape at the heart of south east England. With over 2,395km of public rights of way, 18 large nature reserves and 38 attractions, the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is a special place that provides many ways for people to connect with greenspaces to benefit their wellbeing and the environment.
Your role will involve developing and delivering a programme of activities to enable people, of all ages and backgrounds, to connect with the High Weald’s landscape. You will identify projects suitable for capital investment and facilitate their delivery. You will also help land managers, farmers and foresters manage visitors to reduce their impact on land management activities. The scope of the role is broad and allows exploration of imaginative and different ways of facilitating access and enjoyment.
We are looking for candidates with an ability to establish and develop relationships with a wide range of people. Ideally you will have experience of community engagement and a track record in setting up, running and promoting events and activities. Critically you will be able to take ideas and develop and deliver a range of projects that meet the needs of communities and land managers.
As the host authority for the High Weald AONB Partnership, East Sussex County Council is the employing body. However, you will be based within the small, friendly, and dynamic High Weald AONB team. Our innovative office is located at Flimwell on the Kent/Sussex border and we operate a hybrid working model. We recruit flexibly and will consider secondments, term-time working and alternative hours.
The role can be part or full time (22.2 - 37 hours per week) and fixed term until 31 March 2025.
Advising on an outstanding medieval landscape; connecting people, protecting beauty, restoring soils and nature.
