Senior Mental Health Practitioner - SEND

Hours of work: 37 per week

We also welcome applications from experienced EMHPs and CWPs working towards accreditation with BABCP. 

The Senior Mental Health Practitioner - SEND role is an exciting opportunity to join Me & My Mind, Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) programme and lead on the development and delivery of evidence-based early intervention, with a focus on supporting the needs of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities and supporting schools to develop or implement their Whole School Approaches (WSA) to Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing (MHEW).

The role will be based within Local Authority Children’s Services, and the post holder will be expected to work across a range of Special Schools in Hastings, alongside community partners and other services.

This post is part of the Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) programme which is a shared initiative between the NHS and the Department for Education.

The MHSTs are located in The Havens (the coastal strip comprising the Newhaven, Peacehaven area), South Downs (including Eastbourne, Hailsham & Seaford), Bexhill and Rother, and Hastings.

We are looking for a practitioner with experience of working in a setting where children who have special educational needs or disabilities and mental health issues has been the primary focus. The postholder will be working with children and young people with mild to moderate mental health issues and has:

  • A commitment to support children and young people aged 7 to 18 with their mental health and emotional wellbeing
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to working in a range of educational settings
  • The drive and passion to lead a team with broaden the service offer to working with children and young people with autism.

We provide a range of training opportunities to support this role and access to training provided by Health Education England. High quality monthly Clinical Supervision is also provided by Clinical Psychologists.

We welcome part-time/flexible working, job share applications or requests for secondment opportunities. The successful postholder will be based in Ocean’s House and will be supporting five Special Schools in the Hastings area.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
