Supported Lodgings Provider
What are Supported Lodgings?
Supported lodgings are for young people aged 16 and above who are homeless or living in care. They offer the chance to learn the skills they need to move successfully on to independence.
We believe that all young people have the right to thrive, no matter what their background or circumstance.
What does it involve?
Supported Lodgings Providers work with young people 16+. They may be homeless, a care leaver, or unable, for whatever reason, to live with their birth family.
Payments:
You will receive a generous allowance (which is taxable) for each young person we place with you.
- Standard Weekly Rate - £213.78
- Higher Needs Weekly Rate - £320.67. *This rate is subject to Operations Manager agreement based on the needs of young people placed.
A young person will receive their own allowance or benefits. They may need to contribute financially towards the placement.
As a Supported Lodgings Provider you will:
- Offer emotional and practical support.
- Help them to develop skills for independent living, like washing, budgeting and keeping themselves safe.
- Encourage them to choose alternatives to past unhelpful behaviours.
- Receive training and be part of a team – not on your own. The team includes their social worker and other professionals.
- Have a dedicated worker to offer advice, support and supervision.
- Access to out of hours telephone support.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for people who:
- Want to help young people become independent by providing a safe place to live and the chance to develop the skills they’ll need
- Are emotionally strong, non-judgemental and not easily shocked. The young people we support come from a wide of diverse backgrounds.
- Have a spare bedroom; you don’t need to own your home (though you will require written permission from your landlord). Please note that you can’t provide student accommodation and be a supported lodgings provider.
- Can provide a comfortable and safe home environment and support all dietary requirements.
It’s helpful if you to have experience of raising your own children, working with or caring for young people.

You will receive support through:
- Bi-monthly general provider training, and on relevant topics such as drugs and alcohol.
- Meeting other providers and building up a support network.
- ESCC Fostering training courses.
- The Research in Practice website and resources.
- Monthly supervision to discuss how the placement is going, address any issues and provide general advice.
- A 24/7 out of hours fostering advice line.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
