Training for new staff

We provide in-house training for all new staff to introduce you to working for East Sussex County Council.


To work in children’s homes, you need a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare.

If you don’t have a diploma yet, you will be able to study for one while you work for us.  In certain circumstances you may be able to undertake a Level 4 Children, Young People and Families Practitioner Apprenticeship, in place of the diploma.

Both the diploma and the apprenticeship give a structured and supported programme of professional learning during your first two years with us.  Funding for the training is included in our benefits package.

Career development

We support continuous professional development. There are career development opportunities within residential services up to management roles, with learning and support at all stages.
