Decision logs are an essential tool for emergency responders. If you are responsible for recording decisions in your organisation or as part of a multi-agency partnership, this course is for you.
Training objectives
To equip participants with the knowledge and skills to fulfil the role of decision loggist in an emergency response.


Learning outcomes Explain the legal and policy context in which the Decision Loggist operates Describe the role of the Decision Loggist in an emergency response Recognise the key requirements of the decision maker in order to advise on the importance of recording decisions accordingly Demonstrate competence as a Decision Loggist in a simulated emergency response exercise

Our expert Associates will help you develop the tools you need to succeed, boosting your understanding and confidence on what groups do, how they function and most importantly what ‘good’ looks like. The course looks at resolving difficulties, dealing with crisis effectively and awareness of upcoming challenges. It will also look at being fully prepared to deal with any crisis ahead. Preparing for Recovery Management

Course description Seeking to understand how to lead the recovery from an emergency? Take a journey thorough the four main principles of the recovery process: Humanitarian, Infrastructure, Environmental and Finance to find out how to build back stronger in the aftermath of an incident. These sessions will be delivered on the Emergency Planning College Connected Learning Suite (EPC CLS). All delegates will need an account on the Learning Suite. If you don't already have one, please follow the instructions under additional Information (below). You will need to complete that registration before the day of the first session.    
Training objectives The road to recovery can be complex and challenging, especially when faced with a changing environment that can blur the lines between response and recovery. Set within the context of the latest government guidance on recovery management, and using our experience of recent emergencies, let us take you step by step through the four pillars of recovery, including the purpose and workings of an effective recovery working group and its supporting sub-groups. In addition to learning how to ‘build back stronger’, our experts in the field of recovery management will support you to design an effective basic recovery strategy. Who is This Course For? Traditionally, responsibility to lead the recovery process in the aftermath of a major incident, has fallen to the Local authority. As recent events have demonstrated, the four principles of recovery apply to a wide range of organisations faced with preparing themselves for a new way of working as a result of COVID-19. Principle organisations who would benefit from this course include emergency responders, local authorities, utility companies, Health and Social care providers and voluntary organisations.

Family Assistance in a Major Emergency (FAME)

Course description This two day training course brings together identified staff from all three local authorities in Sussex and is funded by the Sussex Local Resilience Forum. It will provide staff with the knowledge of how an emergency is managed in particular with respect to the families that have reported their relative missing and it is highly likely that they have died in the incident. It will also enable delegates to understand how they can use their existing professional skills and knowledge to provide a caring efficient and effective response to those families.
Training objectives To give an understanding of the multi-agency response to supporting those who have reported people missing and believed to have died with particular regard to emotional and practical humanitarian and welfare support.
Learning outcomes By the end of this two-day course participants will:
  • Have an understanding of the facilities and processes that may be established after an emergency to support those affected;
  • Have an awareness of the impact of loss and the potential needs for those who have reported people missing and believed to have died.
  • Understand how the organisations involved support the response;
  • Appreciate the anti-mortem process that will be required and completed by the police family liaison officers;
  • To recognise the likely impact on personnel and the support mechanisms in place.
