Asbestos Awareness and Duty to Manage

The aim of the training is to inform delegates of the legal requirements for the safe management of asbestos. This course will provide information on the risks associated with asbestos, and enable delegates to implement suitable and sufficient management systems, to ensure compliance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.  With particular reference to the duty holder and who that could be, the surveys available, what to expect in a survey and the asbestos management plan and its use and requirement.

By the end of the course, it is anticipated you will know:

  • What asbestos is, its properties and its effect on health.
  • Where asbestos is likely to be found and what asbestos containing materials look like.
  • The basic requirements of the law and the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
  • How to avoid exposures to asbestos, including the use of the asbestos management plan and the asbestos register.
  • The general procedures to be followed in dealing with an asbestos emergency

COSHH Assessment

To provide delegates with an awareness and understanding of the legal requirements for working with hazardous substances. This course covers the importance of the safe use and storage of hazardous substances in the workplace, to reduce the risk to themselves and others and the completion of COSHH assessments.

This course introduces delegates to the inherent risks posed by hazardous substances and the controls available to assist them in the safer use of hazardous substances in co-operation with their managers and supervisors.

DSE Assessor

This course aims to enable the responsible person in each establishment to undertake a workstation assessment and to provide training for staff in the setting up of an ergonomic workstation. This is an essential course for the responsible person in each establishment to undertake a workstation assessment in line with legislation and be able to identify the hazards associated with display screen equipment.

IOSH Managing Safely

This course aims to enable delegates to manage safety effectively in accordance with legislation and best practice.

This course is externally moderated and validated. The course will assist delegates in:

  • Working more safely
  • Managing safety effectively
  • Contributing to the overall safety of their organisation
  • Knowing Health and Safety responsibilities and have awareness of Health and Safety legislation

It will be accredited externally by the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and successful completion results in the award of a nationally-recognised certificate.

Delegates must attend all three days, as an assessment is incorporated at the end of the course, and a practical assessment will need to be completed.

Managing Conflict and Aggression

This workshop will provide staff with the basic knowledge and skills to manage their personal safety and effectively respond to situations of conflict. Such situations may include incidents where people display aggressive or threatening behaviour or in extreme cases use physical aggression or violence.

The focus of the course will be on strategies to correctly assess conflict situations and reduce the likelihood of escalation through the effective use of defusing techniques.

Premises Co-ordinator Training

This course advises Premises Coordinators of their role in managing the risks associated with the premises and the management of contractors on site.

This course includes responsibilities arising from health and safety legislation, including the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM 2015) which applies to all building and construction work e.g. new build, demolition, refurbishment, extensions, conversions, repair and maintenance.

Delegates who have completed the course will:
• Be aware of the legal requirements for health and safety in relation to buildings.
• Understand the responsibilities arising from health and safety legislation.
• Be aware of the authority's approach to selecting contractors.
• Be aware of the methods of controlling and monitoring contractors.

Risk Assessment

The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 requires that a "suitable and sufficient" assessment to be undertaken of activities that pose a significant risk. 

The course will include: The legal requirements relating to risk assessment and the identification of hazards and recommendation of control measures how to complete a risk assessment using a simple pro-forma.
