Central EYFS Moderation Discussions 2023
This is an opportunity to meet with colleagues to discuss evidence and make judgements against the Early Learning Goals (ELGs) in order to complete the EYFS profile. There will be time for delegates to discuss their anecdotal evidence, and any recorded evidence with colleagues and moderators to gain confidence in securing accurate judgements. Year 1 colleagues are welcome to attend, alongside their EYFS colleagues to ensure that they gain an understanding of children's attainment at the end of the reception year.
Please ensure that you have made some judgements about your children prior to the session. Do please bring 'evidence' of children that are more difficult to assess to gain the most from the session.

- Evidence (anecdotal and recorded) for a selection of children in your class
Training objectives
- To discuss individual children and make accurate assessments
- To develop a secure understanding of the expectations of the ELGs
- To be confident in your understanding of the expectations for the ELGs
- To be able to make accurate judgements to assess attainment of children for the EYFS profile
- To be clear about next steps for identified children
- To have confidence to submit accurate EYFS profile data

Expressive Arts and Design in EYFS
This full day course will discuss the educational programme of Expressive Arts and Design to explore how we can provide children with a range of learning opportunities within the arts. Delegates will discuss child development within the arts identifying a progression of skills within curriculum planning. Delegates will identify how the environment enables children to access all aspects of the arts in both child-initiated and adult-led learning.

- Develop knowledge of the Expressive Arts and Design educational programme and end of year expectations
- Understand the link between Expressive Arts and Design and the prime areas of learning
- Develop strategies and resources to ensure a breadth and depth in the teaching of Expressive Arts and Design

EYFS Conference - Securing the Prime Areas: the best place to start
This year's conference will explore in depth how to ensure all children secure the prime areas of learning, providing them with a strong foundation on which to build a lifetime of education. We are delighted to welcome our keynote speakers Tamsin Grimmer and Helen Battelley, both EYFS experts in their respective fields of PSED and Physical Development. Delegates will also have the opportunity to participate in two workshops of their choice, working with a host of EYFS experts including Tamsin Grimmer, Helen Battelley, Ben Kingston-Hughes, Helen Moylett and Menna Godfrey.
Training objectives
- For EYFS practitioners to extend their knowledge and understanding of the prime areas of learning to ensure all children have a secure foundation in their learning.
- To develop skills and knowledge to provide a wider range of experiences in the prime areas.
- To consider resources and strategies to support families in the development of the prime areas.
- To reflect on current practice and identify areas of development within the prime areas to ensure all children reach their developmental milestones.

What every Headteacher needs to know about improving quality and outcomes in the early years
We are very fortunate to have Kym Scott who spoke at our EYFS Conference in June 2022 to lead a two part online course for headteachers. The course will provide headteachers with a deeper knowledge of curriculum and pedagogy in the early years. It will provide an overview of the most impactful areas to focus on as a leader as well as current areas of focus for Ofsted.
Kym Scott is an early years consultant and key note speaker both nationally and internationally. She led the Early Years Advisory Team in the London Borough of Lewisham being named as one of the top places in the country for children’s development. Kym is an Associate for Early Education and sits on the editorial board of Early Years Educator magazine. Kym is also co-author of a number of books including ‘A Place to Learn’.
Training objectives
- To provide knowledge of what quality in this phase looks like in practice
- To explore how children can have access to the play based learning they are entitled to, whilst also achieving at the highest levels
- To provide resources to take away to support you in monitoring and evaluating the quality of current practice
