Hailsham household waste recycling site

Our household waste recycling sites (‘tips’) have reopened. However, with social distancing necessary, the service is restricted, there may be queues, and you should only travel to a site if absolutely necessary. See Coronavirus – rubbish and recycling in East Sussex.

Mountfield Household Waste Recycling Site - due to road traffic works on the A2100 between 29 June to 29 July, the site can only be accessed from the south/Battle direction.

The site has now reopened to normal hours:

April to end September:

  • Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am to 1pm

October to end March:

  • Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am to 1pm

Bank Holidays: Open 9am to 1pm (Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day)

Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve: Close at 1pm

Directions

The site is in the south eastern outskirts of Hailsham, off Station Road, BN27 2BY

From George Street in the town centre on the one-way system turn left into Station Road. Continue along Station Road for three quarters of a mile, passing a pond on the left.

Look for a side road on your left just after the national speed limit sign. Turn left into this road. The site is immediately on the right, before the Swan Business Centre.

Site restrictions

We have changed the way the sites operate due to coronavirus. For full details, see Coronavirus – rubbish and recycling in East Sussex.

  • The site accepts household waste from residents own homes in East Sussex.
  • Trade/business waste is not accepted.
  • Soil and hardcore are accepted at this site and will be charged for.
  • Vehicle height barrier of 2 metres (6 feet, 6 inches). The height barrier at this site will not be opened under any circumstances.
  • Vans and over-height vehicles with household waste are permitted to use the site on Tuesdays and Thursdays only, provided they meet the other site requirements. These vehicles will be required to park in a designated space outside the site and after checks have been undertaken, the waste can then be walked or wheel-barrowed on to site.
  • Van drivers must provide proof of address. This needs to be two forms of ID such as a drivers licence or recent utility bill.
  • Vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 3500kg or above are not permitted.
  • No vehicles with Luton, flatbed or tipper bodies.
  • No trailers (this is under review).
  • Pedestrian access via main vehicle entrance (please beware of vehicle traffic) weekdays after 3pm for local residents arriving by foot. It is not permitted to park outside or near the site and bring waste into the site on foot.
  • Large heavy bags like tonne bags or hippo bags should not be used. Staff will not be able to help residents unload them if brought to the site. Containers are available on site to allow residents to decant the material if necessary.
  • Small amounts of DIY type waste will be accepted (but some are charged for). Residents should hire a skip for larger amounts.
  • Small amounts of household chemicals will be accepted in sealed and clearly labelled containers.
