Crowborough household waste recycling site

Our household waste recycling sites (‘tips’) have reopened. However, with social distancing necessary, the service is restricted, there may be queues, and you should only travel to a site if absolutely necessary. See Coronavirus – rubbish and recycling in East Sussex.

Mountfield Household Waste Recycling Site - due to road traffic works on the A2100 between 29 June to 29 July, the site can only be accessed from the south/Battle direction.

The site has now reopened to normal hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 9am to 5pm
  • Saturday and Sunday: 9am to 1pm
  • Bank Holidays: Closed
  • Christmas Eve & New Year’s Eve: Close at 1pm.

Please check back to this page for any changes to opening hours. Please don’t rely on the opening hours displayed in Google Maps as this may not be up to date with the correct times.

Site restrictions

We have changed the way the sites operate due to coronavirus. For full details, see Coronavirus – rubbish and recycling in East Sussex.

  • The site accepts household waste from residents own homes in East Sussex.
  • Trade/business waste is not accepted.
  • Soil, hardcore and plasterboard are accepted at this site and will be charged for.
  • Vehicle height barrier of 2 metres (6 feet, 6 inches). Barrier will only be opened for household waste brought in taller vehicles, provided they meet the other site requirements, on Tuesdays and Thursdays only. The only exception is for blue badge holders with taller vehicles who will be permitted entrance on any day, provided they meet the other site requirements.
  • Vans are permitted on Tuesdays and Thursdays only.
  • Vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 3500kg or above are not permitted.
  • No vehicles with Luton, flatbed or tipper bodies.
  • Van drivers must provide proof of address. This needs to be two forms of ID such as a drivers licence or recent utility bill.
  • No trailers (this is under review).
  • No pedestrian access.
  • Large heavy bags like tonne bags or hippo bags should not be used. Staff will not be able to help residents unload them if brought to the site. Containers are available on site to allow residents to decant the material if necessary.
  • Small amounts of DIY type waste will be accepted (and some are charged for). Residents should hire a skip for larger amounts.
  • Small amounts of household chemicals will be accepted in sealed and clearly labelled containers.

Two miles south east of Crowborough town centre in Jarvis Brook, at the end of Farningham Road on Wealden Industrial Estate, TN6 2JR

From the town centre, head down Crowborough Hill (B2100). Before the railway bridge turn right into Station Approach. The train station is on your left hand side. Station Approach leads into Farningham Road towards Wealden Industrial Estate.

The site is at the far end of Farningham Road.
