LoCASE: Helping businesses to reduce emissions and save money

The Low Carbon Across the South and East (LoCASE) programme provides a free business support programme in the South and East. The aim is to help businesses become more competitive and profitable while protecting the environment and encouraging low carbon solutions.

LoCASE provides grants for businesses of up to £10,000 as well as offering training workshops and fully funded events. Targeted business support is also on offer for companies who offer “green” or low carbon goods and services.

To date, LoCASE has helped 1,278 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) across the region, with £7.05million of grants claimed by 929 SMEs.

Southdown sports club, Lewes

Southdown sports club in Lewes is an example of a business that has benefitted from the LoCASE scheme. An energy efficiency audit was conducted to determine how the club could reduce its electricity consumption, lowering its carbon footprint and on-going running costs.

Based on the findings of the audit, Southdown decided to use LoCASE grant funding to replace their hockey pitch’s floodlights with new LED models. The LED floodlights cost a total of £26,200, but their lower electricity consumption has reduced electricity costs by £10,000 a year whilst cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 27 tonnes.
