Apply online for an Historic Environment Record (HER) consultation report
An HER consultation report sets out summary information about the location and extent of known heritage assets (designated and undesignated) and archaeological potential and provides space for the person requesting the report to add information about past and future impacts at the site.
The report is intended to initiate pre-application discussions and to be submitted with a planning application to satisfy local planning authority validation requirements for a heritage statement (National Planning Policy Framework Paragraph 194).
Before you apply
Before you apply for an HER consultation report, you must send an email and site location to,

and receive a validation response on your proposals. Refunds will not be given if application is made prior to assessment. Once the HER has confirmed the requirements for an HER consultation report please apply via the link below and have the following information to hand:
- applicant or consultant details
- site information including a location and foundation plans (preferably PDF)
- payment details
The cost of this report will be £107 and you will receive a response within 10 to 15 working days.
Due to staff shortages, the time frame on HER searches in August and September may be slightly longer than usual. We will endeavour to produce the searches as soon as we can.
Priority searches are currently not available.
