School records

Each school keeps educational records of their pupils. They contain a log of:

  • achievements
  • attendance
  • behaviour
  • letters you exchanged with the school

East Sussex County Council doesn’t hold individual school records.

Your rights

Parents have the right to see their child’s educational records. Write and ask the head teacher – they must respond to your request within 15 school days.

Your child's rights

After your child’s 18th birthday, only they have the right to see their records. You need their permission if you want to see them.
