After you have applied

1. Overview

What to expect

If you apply online, you will receive an email to confirm we received your application.

You can sign in to view your account at any time.

If you have sent us a paper form it is your responsibility to check we have received this.

Offer of a place

Decisions are sent on the national offer day. We won’t give an early decision under any circumstances.

  • Secondary – 1 March 2024
  • Infant, primary or junior – 16 April 2024

We send decisions on allocation day by email if you applied online, or by letter if not.

If you did not get the school(s) you wanted for your child, the decision letter will explain your options.

Change your preference(s) – before the closing date

You can make changes to your preferences provided we receive your email before 31 October for secondary schools and 15 January for infant/primary and junior schools.

If you wish to change or add to your preferences, you must email the Admissions and Transport team

  • your child’s name and date of birth
  • your new preference order

Any other changes in circumstances such as house moves or siblings starting at your preferred school must also be emailed to us as amending your online account will not update your application on our system.

A change in your circumstances - after the closing date

If your circumstances change after the closing date, but you want to keep the same preferences, you should contact the Admissions and Transport team.

Do so as soon as possible and include evidence.

For example, for a house move, this could be:

  • a tenancy agreement

  • exchange of contracts

In most cases, the decision will still be based on the information we held at the closing date.

Request a change to your preference(s) – after the closing date

We will only accept a request if your circumstances have changed significantly since you first applied. That is, you have a new address or there are other factors that were not present at the time of application and could not have been foreseen.

Changes of address will require documentary evidence to show that either an exchange of contracts has taken place or you have signed a tenancy agreement on a new home. Changing your preference does not automatically mean a place will be allocated because the school may already be oversubscribed.

You should email the Admissions and Transport team stating your child’s name and date of birth together with full details of how you wish to amend the application along with relevant evidence. We will let you know if we agree to your request.  If we don't, we will offer you a school based on your original preferences.
