How we communicate over email securely

East Sussex County Council uses email to communicate with members of the public and our partners. We take the security of our information seriously and as such make every effort to encrypt our emails as they travel over the Internet.

As such the Council will try to encrypt all emails as standard using the Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol on outbound emails where your email provider supports the TLS protocol. We will also request all inbound emails are also encrypted where your email provider supports the TLS protocol.

For Council staff

The Government’s GCSx email system has been shut down. Domains such as:

  • nhs.net
  • pnn.gov.uk
  • pnn.police.uk
  • hscic.gov.uk
  • cjsm.net

will continue to send encrypted emails using the TLS protocol.

For public sector partners sending sensitive information to our eastussex.gov.uk domain

Your council contact can provide you with a secure email address.
