What to do after a death

Deaths should normally be registered within 5 days.

Book online or call 0345 60 80 198 for an appointment at an East Sussex register office.

If the death happened outside of East Sussex, you should register in that district. If this is not possible, you can register by declaration with us by calling 0345 60 80 198, but this will delay the process and you will not receive any certificates on the day.
