Funding - schools and colleges SEND

Mainstream schools

  • Basic funding to meet the needs of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
  • Additional support funding to provide more sustained and individualised support. If a child or young person needs it, schools are expected to provide up to £6000 worth of support from this fund.
  • Top up funding if a child or young person has an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan. This is decided during an EHC needs assessment or an annual review. Amounts will vary depending on the child’s needs.

Special Schools

Special schools get basic funding for every pupil, and top up funding for each child with their Education, Health and Care plan. The amount depends on the child’s needs.
