Sussex review of emotional health and wellbeing support
Foundations for Our Future:
Our commitment to improving the emotional health and wellbeing of children and young people
More children and young people need help and support for their emotional health and wellbeing across Sussex each year. The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic led to a fast increase in need.
The NHS and local authorities across Sussex are working together. We want to improve the experience and lives of all children and young people who need support. We have staff working in health, social care, education and the voluntary and community sector. They work hard to try to ensure children, young people and their families get the help they need.
However, feedback showed that the current system is not working as well as it should. We spoke to those using services, their families, carers and staff.
They told us that the needs of children, young people and their families and carers must be central to how we plan, pay for and deliver services. They told us that it is not always clear what support is available, from whom or how to access it.
This is something all partners agreed needs to rapidly change. We know how difficult and distressing it is for those affected by emotional health or wellbeing issues.
An independent review
Our commitment is to make real improvements. We commissioned an independently-led review. We call it ‘Foundations for Our Future’. We heard from those who know best how we can provide the right care and support. We heard what works well, and what we can improve. Now we understand what needs to change, and we can begin our work together. We will take bold and ambitious action to make change happen.
