You can find local businesses you can trust and rely upon by using the Checkatrade website.

Look out for the ‘East Sussex Trading Standards Approved’ logo to choose local businesses that have been checked by both Trading Standards and Checkatrade.

How to join Checkatrade

Any business can apply to join this scheme. Checkatrade visit each trader and carry out background checks to make sure you’re a legitimate trader. This includes asking for ID, references, insurance, qualifications and information about your business.

In return you will get the following benefits:

  • Your own profile page on the Checkatrade website, including details of the work you do, the area you cover, and option to display photos of completed work
  • Well managed and regular online feedback from your customers
  • Checkatrade advertising, including vehicle, radio and television advertising.

2. Businesses approved by 'Buy With Confidence'

Find approved traders

In response to concerns about ‘rogue traders’, we provide consumers with a list of local businesses that are committed to trading fairly and provide high standards of customer service.

All businesses on the Buy With Confidence website have been approved by Trading Standards. To find an approved trader, please click the link below and you will be redirected to the appropriate government supported website.

How to join Buy With Confidence

Any business can apply to join Buy With Confidence. Every business is vetted before they are approved, with detailed checks including:

  • review of their complaints history and a visit from Trading Standards
  • good references from previous customers
  • applicants must agree to the scheme’s code of conduct
  • criminal records basic disclosure required in some circumstances.

The Buy With Confidence scheme is supported by East Sussex Trading Standards. Members are monitored via the Citizen’s Advice Consumer Service and through customer feedback.
