It is part of an investment of just over £363 million announced by the Government to ensure the UK has the best super-fast broadband network in Europe by 2015, with 90% of homes and businesses having access to super-fast broadband and for everyone in the UK to have access to at least 2Mbps (megabytes per second).
"This is great news for the county," said Deputy Council Leader Keith Glazier. "Broadband is essential for modern living. We recognise how important it is for people to be able to access digital services, and we also know it will help to boost our economy by allowing businesses and employment to grow.
"We've worked hard to make sure the Government knows East Sussex is a very deserving case and we're pleased we are amongst the top 10 highest allocations in the country. Now we know how much has been earmarked for East Sussex we can work with the industry to cost out solutions and find the rest of the money it will take to get the job done."
