Residents, staff, councillors and local representatives gathered at the new library in the former Social Club at the back of the Hall of Commemoration.
The new library opened its doors to customers on Saturday 17 July 2010.
Library users are now benefiting from better facilities, extended opening hours and more library stock.
The new facility, which cost £60,000 to fit out, is three times the size of the old library and has been totally refurbished, offering a bright and welcoming space.
Councillor Bob Tidy, Lead Member for Community Services at the County Council, said: “I'm absolutely delighted that we have started a new chapter for library services for the people of Wadhurst. We've worked in partnership with the Wadhurst Institute Hall & Field Committee to provide a much better library and improved facilities.
“The cuts in government funding and the squeeze on public finances mean that we've had to take a hard look at our priorities and only put forward the schemes that we believe our residents want and need. Wadhurst Library is one of those schemes and I'm very pleased that we've been able to complete this project with the help of the Hall & Field Committee and Wadhurst Parish Council.”
The new Library has comfortable seating areas, toilet and baby change facilities, a larger children's library and a new teenage area with access to computers.
Wadhurst is one of a number of new library developments planned by the County Council alongside Rye, Seaford, Newhaven and Hastings.
