Press release: Hastings gives 'Build East Sussex' a boost

Monday 2 August 2010

Over 100 delegates – many from the from the Hastings and Rother area – attended a ‘Build East Sussex' network event held at Sussex Coast College in Hastings last month – taking the opportunity to find out more about how to work with the big construction companies and meet them face-to-face.

Led by East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council, Build East Sussex (BES) is a network of construction companies, subcontractors and business support organisations.

The aim of BES is to help small and medium sized businesses involved in the construction industry in East Sussex improve their chances of getting a share of construction contract work for schools, roads and other aspects of the built environment in the County.

People attending the Hastings event heard brief presentations from main construction companies, Vinci and Mears, took part in table discussions where advice was given on winning contracts for public sector building projects and there then followed an opportunity to network with the main contractors so that local firms could show them what they can do.

The next opportunity to network with the buyers will be in Eastbourne on 19 October 2010.

Businesses interested in finding out more about this initiative should visit the Build East Sussex website where they will be able to complete a subcontractor introductory questionnaire accepted by all the main contractors in the network – as well as viewing and expressing interest in tendering for the advertised work opportunities.
