County Council Leader Peter Jones, Deputy Chief Constable Giles York and Chief Fire Officer Des Pritchard joined together this week to fly the flag at the Council's headquarters – ahead of the main Pride celebrations in Brighton at the weekend.
Council Leader Peter Jones, said: “I'm delighted to show our support for the Pride celebrations by raising the flag at County Hall. Earlier this year, we retained our Stonewall rating as the best County Council in England when it comes to LGB equality in the workplace and we moved up the Stonewall Index of top 100 public and private sector employers from 26th to 17th.
“We've also made great strides to improve our equality work overall and this was underlined recently when we were assessed as ‘achieving' under the new Equalities Framework for Local Government.”
Deputy Chief Constable Giles York said: “Sussex Police is proud to show its commitment to Pride and personally I am looking forward to joining the police contingent leading the parade once again next Saturday 7 August with police officers and staff from across the country.
"These events and how we police them show our continued support and commitment to serving Sussex; engaging and building trust with the LGBT community, not only with our staff from this community but also with the diverse people throughout Sussex."
Chief Fire Officer, Des Pritchard said: “East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service are delighted to be able to show our continuing support to the diversity within our communities across East Sussex and the City of Brighton & Hove. Pride is a fantastic celebration of that diversity and we are looking forward to being part of the event."
