Press release: Link road decision delayed

Friday 11 June 2010

East Sussex County Council has reacted with disappointment to the announcement by the Department for Transport (DfT) that decisions on the Bexhill to Hastings link road will be delayed, but re-stated its commitment to the scheme.

The DfT has said it is postponing decisions on all transport schemes whilst it carries out a spending review and reforms the way in which transport projects are prioritised and funded.

Councillor Matthew Lock, Lead Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment, said: "We are disappointed but not altogether surprised by this announcement, given the UK's budget deficit and forthcoming spending review.

"Having said that, the Bexhill to Hastings link road remains one of the County Council's key priorities, as we believe it is vital to the economic regeneration of the area and wider south east. We will, therefore, continue to make the strongest possible case for funding."
