Press release: Libraries unite to provide more information for local people

Wednesday 3 March 2010

People in the Hastings and St Leonards area can now access more specialist information thanks to a partnership between the main libraries in the town.

The ‘Refer' scheme enables members of the public to access a wide range of resources including specialist library collections.

East Sussex County Council's Library and Information Service, Sussex Coast College Hastings, University of Brighton University Centre Hastings, the Rosewell Library at the Conquest Hospital and the Theological Library at the Magnet Centre are working in partnership to provide the scheme.

The County Council's Hastings Library has a large reference section, and staff at local libraries will also be able to help library members to find the materials they need. All libraries also provide access to the Internet, local studies and family history materials, encyclopaedias, telephone directories and newspapers.

The University Centre Hastings Library has information on education, business and management, social sciences, health and computing. Sussex Coast College Library includes information on art and design, childcare, sport, catering, hair and beauty and construction and engineering on its shelves, whilst a range of books and journals on health and religion are available at the Rosewell Library and at The Magnet respectively.

If you hold full membership of the Public Library (which requires proof of name and address) you can apply to see collections in the other libraries for reference purposes.

For more information about the refer scheme please visit our page about 'Refer' - local reference access scheme or call 0345 60 80 196 and ask to be put through to Hastings Library.
