Press release: Give us your views on plans for coastal transport

Tuesday 9 February 2010

East Sussex residents living in or travelling to the coastal towns of Telscombe Cliffs, Peacehaven, Newhaven and Seaford, as well as Lewes and the surrounding areas, are invited to have a say about proposals for how regular journeys to shops, school, work or doctors surgeries can be improved.

It follows a survey we carried out last autumn, which asked people about their travel experiences in the local area.

The responses have been analysed and put together with evidence from local community action plans and local area transport strategies, to help us create detailed maps of the area. These identify areas with good and those with poor access to services.

We have also put together a draft action plan of options we would like to develop further to improve how people access these services and facilities by using public transport, walking and cycling.

The action plan includes a number of measures, including:

  • improved bus and rail information and signage at and around train stations
  • provision of up-to-date and relevant information at bus stops in the study area
  • encouragement of the provision or expansion of cycle storage at various train stations.

If you live or work in these towns, your views are vital to us. Go to our current consultations section from Friday 12 February to see the draft report and action plan and complete the online questionnaire, or you can get a paper copy by using the contact details below.

The original closing date for comments has been extended from Friday 19 March to Friday 9 April 2010.
