With support from East Sussex County Council's Youth Development Service (YDS), the group managed to secure funding through East Sussex YouthBank to create a club night for young people, aged 14 to 18 who are interested in alternative music.
The club will run on the last Saturday of the month at the Bexhill Youth and Community Centre in Station Road, from 7.30pm until 10.30pm starting Saturday 30 January.
The night will include young DJs and live music from young bands in the area playing a mix of sounds. The club nights will be supported by youth workers from the YDS and volunteers including parents and young people who will work together in partnership to help these nights be a success.
The group have taken the lead in developing and promoting the project, including designing their own flyers and banners with help from youth workers and a local artist.
The night will give young bands the opportunity to play to live audiences, something that is difficult for them to find on a regular basis. The events will feature rock, punk, metal and indie music.
One of the young people involved in the Project stated “We felt that club nights always seem to cater for those interested in hip hop and dance music. We wanted to give young people in the area the chance to enjoy other aspects of music with a live music theme.”
Admission will cost £3 and there will be a non-alcoholic bar.
