The answer to that question and more will be given at an important construction industry networking event taking place this month.
Nearly 350 business delegates based in the two areas have already confirmed they will be at the first-ever Construction Marketplace event, which takes place at 3pm on Wednesday 27 January at the East Sussex National Golf Club and Spa at Uckfield.
The aim of the Marketplace – which will launch the Build East Sussex initiative – is to make it easier for local firms to quote for work available with the big construction companies – this is a significant amount since projections of the contracts to be let in 2010 alone exceed £150m. Build East Sussex, which is led by East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council, is a network of construction companies, subcontractors and business support organisations.
Over 30 exhibitors are expected at the free Marketplace event including Kier, Mansell, May Gurney, Mears, Morgan Ashurst, Osborne, W Stirland and Sunninghill.
The Leader of the County Council, Peter Jones and the Deputy Leader of the City Council, Councillor Ayas Fallon-Khan, will give keynote speeches at the event.
The free event on 27 January is an opportunity for businesses to:
- find out about potential projects in the area;
- meet contractors who will be leading projects;
- find out what requirements they must meet to increase their chances of working for the contractors;
- meet a range of business support organisations which can assist them in meeting those requirements.
There will also be an opportunity to register on the Build East Sussex website at www.buildeastsussex.co.uk, where businesses will be able to complete a subcontractor introductory questionnaire accepted by all the main contractors in the network as well as viewing and expressing interest in tendering for the advertised work opportunities.
If you would like to attend, email admin@buildeastsussex.co.uk with names of delegates and anticipated time of arrival. Businesses that would like more information should call Grant Farrell on 01273 291463.
