The County Council's Rethink Rubbish team will be travelling around the county with theatre group, Quantum Theatre, from Monday 18 January. They will be encouraging children to learn more about the environment in a fun and interactive way with their performance of ‘Bin Raiders'.
The show explores how everyone can take responsibility for the environment, highlighting everyday actions we can all take to reduce energy wastage and what's being just thrown away.
Gideon from Quantum theatre said, "The play is set on Earth where the wastage of energy and resources has escalated to the point that far away in another part of the Universe the ‘Eco-Friendly Federation of Planets' is worried. Bin Raider, an interplanetary troubleshooter, is sent from the planet Spotless to find out what is going wrong and to educate the profligate Earthlings."
Matthew Lock, Lead Member for Transport and Environment said, "I hope the children and schools will be encouraged to take action to reduce their own impact on the environment. Many schools have already adopted a variety good practices actions there are always new things they might not be aware of. By looking at this issue in a fun way, we are able to show the pupils what they can do to help by recycling and saving energy."

A few energy facts
- Almost half of the UK's carbon dioxide emissions come from energy we use every day – at home and when we travel.
- For every minute the fridge door is left open it takes 3 minutes to regain temperature.
- Turning down your central heating thermostat by just one degree saves energy and reduces your fuel bills by up to 10%.
- If every household in the UK installed three low energy light bulbs enough energy would be saved in a year to supply all the street lighting in the UK.
- If you switch off the monitor screen of your PC this alone will save 70–80% of the PC's energy use.
