East Sussex County Council is taking a leading role in promoting these services throughout the region as part of the South East Supported Housing Month.
This will give people the chance to discuss the different services available in East Sussex and see how these benefit the community. The showcase event is an open day in Newhaven at The Hillcrest Community Centre on Monday 23 November, with other events planned in Lewes, Bexhill,Uckfield and Icklesham.
The Newhaven Open Day has been jointly organised by the Council's Supporting People team in Adult Social Care (ASC) and service providers. It will focus on the contribution made to East Sussex by showing:
- how supported housing is improving the lives of people in a multi-agency approach involving ASC, borough and district councils, registered social landlords, not-for-profit organisations and the private sector
- how this reduces pressure on the NHS, police and social care agencies through prevention, with support for people on how to manage their money, develop domestic and social skills and keep themselves and their homes safe
- celebrating achievements in tackling social isolation, allowing people to achieve their potential, enjoy independent and fulfilled lives and make a greater contribution to their community.
Councillor Bill Bentley, the County Council Lead Member for Adult Social Care, said:
“We work very closely with our partnership organisations to ensure that vital housing support services are available to those that need them. Supported Housing Month is an ideal opportunity for people to learn what is on offer, how services are provided and what the outcomes are”.
Supported Housing Month runs until 11 December and full details of the events and further information about the Supporting People programme can be found on our page Supporting People – supporting independence at home.
