A ‘family day' has been organised for Saturday 7 November 2009 and this will be followed by a general open day on Sunday 8 November 2009 at the Record Office, in Castle Precincts, Lewes.
East Sussex County Council's Record Office houses 900 years of East Sussex and Brighton & Hove history. The open weekend will provide a fantastic variety of family and local history activities for all ages.
Councillor Bob Tidy, Lead Member for Community Services said: “All the activities and events at the open weekend are free and will help to bring history to life. We hope to see as many people as possible at the family and the general open days so if you've never visited the Record Office before this is an opportunity not to be missed!”
The family open day on Saturday 7 November is from 10.30am until 3.30pm. Activities include:
• Storytelling
• Be a conservator
• Behind the scenes tour
• Poster making
• Family history surgery with the Sussex Family History Group
• See 1930's Lewes
• Find out about the Phoenix Iron and Steelworks
The general open day on Sunday 8 November is from 10.00am until 4.00pm. Activities include:
• Conservation workshops
• Behind the scenes tour
• Archive advice surgery
• Family history surgery
• See 1930's Lewes
• Find out about the Phoenix Iron and Steelworks
