A portable ‘video diary room' will be at four venues across the county during September and October to allow people to give their views on camera and help East Sussex County Council to plan future library services.
Councillor Bob Tidy, Lead Member for Community Services says that the Council is always looking at innovative ways to help people have their say.
He said: “We are definitely not Big Brother but we decided that the video diary room idea was a great way to get more views from our residents. Over the next few weeks, you'll be able to visit one of five venues at Peacehaven, Hastings, Uckfield, Eastbourne or Battle and take part in the filming.
“We want to hear from people who use their local library and from those who don't. We want to know if we've got the right mix of library services for our communities. We'll be listening carefully to what our customers tell us and will be feeding their views into our plans for libraries.”
The video diary room will be available (from 10.30am until 4.30pm) at the following four venues:
- Peacehaven Library, the Meridian Centre, Peacehaven on Saturday 19 September (to coincide with an ‘Ask the Expert' gardening event and Homework Club in the Library)
- Uckfield Library, Library Way, High Street, Uckfield on Tuesday 29 September (to coincide with the morning Rhymetime session and afternoon Storytime session)
- Hastings Central Library, Brassey Institute, 13 Claremont, Hastings on Friday 2 October
- Battle Library, 7 Market Square, Battle on Friday 9 October.
People using the video diary room will read and then answer a list of questions which will appear on the screen in front of them. Above the screen is a camera which will record them. The questions will be about the library service in East Sussex and will be brief and very easy to answer with time in between each question for people to add their own views.
You can take part in the library consultation by completing the survey online. You can also complete the questionnaire during a visit to the library or when you attend a library event.
