Press release: Planning permission granted for link road

Thursday 30 July 2009

Planning permission has been granted for the Bexhill to Hastings link road.

East Sussex County Council's planning committee gave the go ahead for the road in December 2008 subject to a legal agreement and various conditions, including measures to reduce its impact on the environment. The committee also agreed to refer the application to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government because some aspects of it departed from the aims of statutory local planning policies.

In February 2009, the Secretary of State decided not to call in the application.

A legal agreement has now been signed, enabling the planning permission with 32 conditions to be issued. This will now be advertised and objectors informed.

Further information

Details about the planning application and the decision by planning committee can be found through our pages about the Bexhill to Hastings link road.

The public inquiry to consider the compulsory purchase of land for the Bexhill to Hastings link road will start on 10 November 2009 at White Rock Theatre, Hastings. The inquiry is expected to last approximately four weeks.

Construction of the road is planned to start in summer 2010, with the road open to traffic by the end of 2012.
