Parish and district councillors, along with representatives from community transport operators, older people forums and the voluntary sector were among those invited to the event at Uckfield Civic Centre on Tuesday 24 March.
There are currently more than 40 Community Transport schemes being run in East Sussex. These include dial-a-ride, volunteer drivers and community buses.
Those attending our seminar took part in workshop sessions to tell us what people living in their communities think about services that already exist, and to talk about what they would like bus services and community transport to look like in the future.
We will use the information gathered at the seminar to draft a Community Transport strategy, which will set out what we are going to do to provide an efficient, effective and desirable public transport service. We will then ask everyone in East Sussex for their comments on the strategy before it is finalised and put into practice.
County Council Leader, Councillor Peter Jones, said: “People in East Sussex are telling us this is their number one priority – getting access to better and more flexible public transport services. We have some ideas about how we can improve things, but it is important we all get involved in finding more creative ways to meet passenger transport needs.
“Thank you to everyone who attended our seminar to tell us about the needs of each of their communities. I'm confident we can work together to find the best solutions.”
Lead Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment, Councillor Matthew Lock, said: “This is the first step of giving greater access to vital services for more people in our communities whilst building on strong community transport schemes that we have already."
