Press release: The rise of the Silver Surfer

Tuesday 31 March 2009

Silver surfers in Lewes are improving their computer skills thanks to a pilot programme put together by East Sussex County Council.

The Council’s Library Service has been running computer taster sessions for people over the age of 50 at Lewes Library in Styles Field, Friars Walk.

Six Silver Surfer sessions have been held on basic computer skills including how to use email and the Internet and the library online subscription resources.

The participants have also benefited from using new computer equipment installed by the Council at Lewes Library.

The new computers, printers and scanners are part of a countywide programme that has seen 250 new public access computers installed in all libraries over the last four months at a cost of £200,000.

Following the success of the computer taster session programme, the Council hopes to roll out further Silver Surfer courses in the near future.
