Press release: Approved trader scheme gets another boost

Buy With Confidence (BWC) – a scheme run by East Sussex County Council – now has 317 members following a recent approved trader ceremony at the Royal Victoria Hotel in St Leonards-on-Sea.

Trading Standards officers have been running the BWC scheme since 2004. It provides local people with a list of businesses that have been vetted and approved by Trading Standards.

Councillor Bob Tidy, Lead Member for Community Services, said: “Buy With Confidence promotes good business and consumer protection and helps in our battle against rogue traders. I’m delighted that, following the ceremony in St Leonards, we now have 317 East Sussex businesses on board. It shows that local firms know it’s good for their trade – a real bonus in the tough economic times we are now facing.”

A free directory is available from Trading Standards with a list of approved traders in the scheme. People can also search online for approved traders on our Buy With Confidence pages.

Councillor Bob Lacey, Chairman of the County Council, attended the BWC ceremony to hand out the approved trader certificates to 30 businesses. So far 107 businesses in the Eastbourne area have joined the scheme together with 80 from the Wealden area, 72 from the Hastings and Rother area and 58 from the Lewes area.
