Family fun day for foster carers

Friday 15 August 2008

Foster carers and their families who give short break care for disabled children have been praised for their dedication and work.

East Sussex County Council organised a family fun day at Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum in recognition of the support that the families provide.

More than 70 children and adults met up for a special picnic, followed by strolls around the wildfowl reserve. The children had great fun playing in the adventure playground and taking rides on the miniature steam train, before exploring the woodland trails and the museum’s collection of classic cars.

This event was organised by East Sussex County Council’s Children’s Disability Short Break & Fostering Service team to say thank you to all their carers. The picnic is one of a number of different events held during the year to recognise the contribution of carers from across the County Council’s Fostering Service.

The Children’s Disability Short Break & Fostering Service, which is part of the County Council’s wider Fostering Service, aims to link a disabled child and his or her family with an approved short-break foster carer. This is an invaluable service as it provides families with a break and the child with fresh opportunities outside the family circle.

If you would like to find out more about becoming a Short Break Foster Carer for East Sussex you should contact the service on 01323 762024 or email disabilityfostering@eastsussex.gov.uk.
