Being held at Gilredge Park, Saffrons Road in Eastbourne on Saturday 2 August, the free event promises a host of fun activities for families to enjoy. KITES are hoping that more than 1,000 people will turn up.
KITES, the Council’s family information service, provides a range of information for families of children and young people aged 0–20 and is currently running a consultation to ask families whether they’re happy with the service and what can be done to improve it – they hope families attending the event will also be able to help out with that consultation.
The fun day, which starts at 11am and finishes at 3pm, will include a football tournament involving families from the county’s Children’s Centres, circus skills, Tumble Tots, a fire and ice show put on by Mad Science, music, stories, a fire engine and much more.
A number of other local organisations have also been invited to contribute to the event by providing an activity and KITES also hopes to be able to run competitions with prizes donated by local firms.
Councillor David Elkin, the County Council’s Lead Member for Learning and School Effectiveness said: “KITES is a really key service for parents and carers in East Sussex and it provides up-to-date, accurate and impartial free advice. This event will hopefully raise awareness of the team and the advice that is available but most of all the event is about bringing families together to have fun.
“It should really be a great day and I would encourage all families to come along, bring a picnic and take part.”

Notes to editors
Last year East Sussex County Council’s children and families information service, KITES, was the first local authority service of its kind to win a prestigious National Quality Standards Award for the third time when it was re-accredited by the National Association of Children’s Information Services (NACIS).
For its re-accreditation, the KITES team had to provide evidence of continual improvements made since it was re-assessed in 2003 and consistency in over-achieving of the minimum standards set by the Government. Providing additional family support information, a new newsletter and expanded partnership networking at a local level were all examples of improvements that the KITES team had initiated over the past three years.
