No cold calling – Eastbourne residents asked for their views

Monday 14 July 2008

Residents of Queens Crescent and Queens Road in Eastbourne are to be asked for their views about a No Cold Calling Zone.

East Sussex County Council’s Trading Standards Team has been working with the Queens Crescent Residents Association to plan the zone. The aim is to deter unwanted callers and bogus traders and the partners want to find out what local people think about their plans.

A public consultation will take place from Monday 21 July until Friday 8 August 2008. This will be an opportunity for residents, business people and faith groups to ask questions and put forward their views to Trading Standards.

If you are interested in commenting please contact Elizabeth Bowring at the County Council’s Trading Standards Service on 01323 463448 or email elizabeth.bowring@eastsussex.gov.uk. General advice about No Cold Calling Zones can be found online at Trading Standards Central.

Councillor Bob Tidy, Lead Member for Community Services at the County Council said: “Setting up a zone is a warning to cold callers to keep out. If the plans get the go-ahead it will make it harder for unwanted callers and rogue traders to operate in this part of Eastbourne. Community Safety is one of our top priorities and I am delighted that we are working with the Queens Crescent Residents Association on this initiative. I would urge local people to get in touch and give us their views during the consultation.

“If the scheme gets the go-ahead, a launch date will be organised and more information made available to residents. Signs would go up at each end of Queens Crescent to ensure unwanted callers get the message that they are not wanted in the area”.
