The Fund was set up to help local community groups and the latest to benefit from over £33,000 of County Council funding include projects to support youth work, respite care for carers in rural areas, support for bereaved children and for families affected by self harm.
Groups receiving the grant include The Association of Carers (Rother) who will receive £5,000, Eastbourne and District Cruse who also get £5,000, Rural Voices, Rural Choices (Lewes) £5,000, Act On It (Lewes) £3,000 and Safe UK (Hastings & Eastbourne) £4,700.
Councillor Peter Jones, Leader of the County Council, said: “It’s fantastic that projects such as these are receiving grants that will help them to grow, recognising the valuable work that their local volunteers carry out. Although these are relatively small amounts of funding, they can make a big difference in getting some projects off the ground or helping others to expand their service into another area. This initiative is just part of our drive to improve our links with the voluntary and community sector.”
Grants in the latest round range from £429 up to the maximum of £5,000. To qualify for seedcorn funding, applicants must be able to show an element of innovation in their project, which must either:
- pilot innovative approaches to service delivery
- pilot the delivery of a local service to a wider geographical area, or
- develop new approaches to user involvement.
There will be a further opportunity to bid for a Seedcorn grant in the autumn – for further details on the Seedcorn Fund contact Hastings Voluntary Action on 01424 444010.
