Members of the public were already able to search for summaries of cases and make comments using their computers but, from 1 May, they will also be able to see all documents associated with new applications at the County Council's website.
In addition it is now also possible to make planning applications on-line to the County Council through the Government's national Planning Portal, which is linked to the website and the Council has already received four in this way since this system began in April.
Councillor Matthew Lock, Lead Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment, said: "Great strides are being made in improving access to the Council’s planning application service for applicants and consultees, including individual members of the public. These steps will mean it’s no longer necessary to go to council offices in office hours to see planning applications. This – and applications themselves – can now be done from the comfort of the home."
