Making roads safer in East Sussex

Thursday 31 January 2008

Southern Water and East Sussex County Council are working together to ensure safety and minimise disruption during roadworks.

Southern Water, which has sewers and water mains to maintain, has signed a partnership agreement with the county council to ensure any roadworks are carried out safely and in compliance with the New Roads and Street Works Act and the Traffic Management Act.

Councillor Matthew Lock, Lead Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment, said: “We have agreed with Southern Water that we will work together as one team to improve roadworks, increase road safety and minimise disruption.”

Andy Riches, Southern Water’s Regional Distribution Manager, said: “We have to carry out street works for security of supply, maintenance, safety and to provide new services to customers. It is therefore important we can carry out this work as safely as possible and working with East Sussex County Council will help us to achieve this.”
