The achievements were chalked up by staff at East Sussex County Council and recognised at a recent awards ceremony at Uckfield.
Teams and individuals based at Lewes and Eastbourne and at other locations throughout East Sussex were praised during the excellence awards ceremony for their dedication and drive to provide better services.
The roll of honour of projects and initiatives includes:
- New guidance which aims to help care staff to better understand and support people with sensory issues in autism. The guidance was produced by Adult Social Care and Personnel and Training staff.
- The Council’s Safer Communities Team which established the multi-agency Safer Communities Steering Group and also consulted with partners to write the Safer Communities Plan. Work in this area has been impressive: last year, there was a 5% reduction in overall crime making East Sussex the best performing area in the South East.
- The work of the Supported Accommodation Team in Adult Social Care who managed to safeguard services for vulnerable adults and saved the Department over £130,000 per year.
- Employee of the Year, Anita Cobb, a Resource Officer in Adult Social Care, who helped develop work opportunities for 27 adults with learning disabilities. This was done by holding a public open day to raise awareness and was also carried out within existing resources.
Other individuals and teams from the Council’s Transport & Environment, Children’s Services, Chief Executive’s and Corporate Resources Departments were also highly commended and praised for their work to improve services. A team of officers from the Council was also praised for their commendation in a national Local Government Challenge competition.
