East Sussex County Council’s Adult Social Care team has a ‘carers development fund’ available to help kick-start projects over a period of one to two years. Established groups can apply along with individuals looking to start support projects for carers in the Bexhill area.
The development fund is not intended to fully fund projects on a long-term basis and applicants will be expected to identify other sources of funding that can fully or partly meet their costs on an ongoing basis. The deadline for applications is Monday 26 November 2007.
Councillor Bill Bentley, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care said: “The carer’s development fund is an excellent opportunity for individuals and groups to start new initiatives or to develop the services they already offer. We have worked very hard with carer groups to set up this fund and I am sure it will help to improve support for carers in and around Bexhill.”
Anyone interested in making a funding bid should contact Gemma Counsell on Lewes 01273 482533 or email gemma.counsell@eastsussex.gov.uk to receive a development fund application pack.
People who would like more information, or to discuss their application and the fund criteria, should contact Barry Sugg or Kelle Kingsley on Lewes 01273 481565.
Notes to editors
You are a carer if you look after, help or support someone who is ill, frail or disabled and you are not paid for doing this. You don’t have to be living with the person to be a carer. Organisations that offer support and information about carer’s services include Care for the Carers, Rethink Carers Support Service and Crossroads Care Attendant Scheme.
If you are a carer, you are legally entitled to a ‘carer’s assessment’, to find out your needs. This is the first step in identifying and helping carers to access services and information and to ensure they have adequate support.
