The DVD is part of an East Sussex County Council project. It will be shown across the county and on the County Council website
‘Don’t want it – Don’t waste it’ features examples of products that are often thrown away but could be recycled and is presented by performing arts students from Sussex Downs College, Lewes.
The young presenters lead viewers through an interactive menu to cartoons and films covering four areas of recycling: compact discs, mobile phones, clothes and general waste.
It will be shown at East Sussex schools and at a mobile exhibition touring the county. Clips of the programme can be viewed on our website at: www.eastsussex.gov.uk/rethinkrubbish
Councillor Matthew Lock, Lead Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment said: “This is a wonderful way for young people to learn about recycling whether it is by watching the interactive DVD or online.”
The DVD has been produced by Rethinking Rubbish: a partnership project between East Sussex County Council, Smedar Council in Rouen and Global Action Plan, part financed by the European Union. The project aims to build a cross-border partnership on waste management, develop workable solutions and increase public awareness of the issues.

Notes to editors
About the Interreg project
East Sussex County Council and Smedar, a local authority responsible for treating the waste of 160 parishes totalling 600 000 residents in the Rouen region, have been working together over the last two years on a joint project part financed by the European Regional Development fund (ERDF).
The project aims to identify some of the issues and problems created by the increasing volume of waste produced in both East Sussex and Rouen and to provide solutions that will lessen the impact on the environment. There are a number of objectives and one of these is to increase public awareness of waste issues by jointly developing new methods of communicating with the public, such as the DVD.
